Migraine Awareness Month #16: “Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way”
“Which role fits you and why?”
- I’m a Leader: When strength is necessary – when intestinal fortitude is required… The Leader steps in. This leader can be found after a particularly rough time with health, disappointment or loss. It moves in to take the place of fear, depression and sadness; it quietly envelops its weaker counterparts, not disabling, merely guiding…
- I am a Follower: The Follower is invoked anytime acceptance, guidance and quiet resolution are needed. ***** Note: The appearance of “following” does not necessarily indicate that The Follower is anywhere in the vicinity. The Leader does not easily relinquish his control and must be temporarily coaxed back into his chair, content to listen and learn while The Follower does the same.
- Get Out of My Way: During particularly “bad patches” or when pushed beyond normal limits, The Leader takes complete control of all, and “Get Out of My Way” rushes in. This has been known to happen during threatening situations, both physical and emotional. Get Out of My Way took years to refine and now contains all the patience, courage, quiet determination and perseverance of The Follower as well as The Leader. Blind rage, defiance and intimidation has all but been eliminated from Get Out of My Way’s repertoire. It is a (mostly) cooperative, respectful citizen now.
